Bonus paycheck calculator (2026)

Sample take-home: $65,110.00 a year · $5,425.83 a month · $2,504.23 biweekly.

Tax year 2026, Texas, single, standard deduction, no 401(k).

A bonus is usually withheld as supplemental wages, not as if it were spread evenly across the year. Type regular pay as usual, then the bonus field. Federal uses the IRS optional flat 22% (37% above $1,000,000), plus Social Security and Medicare, plus a simplified state increment.

Employers may instead use the aggregate method (add the bonus to a regular check and withhold as if the combined check were typical). That can withhold more or less than 22% in a single period. This page shows the flat supplemental sketch so you can plan cash, not file a return.

FICA still applies to bonus wages. Social Security stops at the $184,500 2026 wage base; Medicare does not. California SDI and WA Cares, when those states are selected, also apply to the bonus in this model.

The Texas $80,000 + $10,000 bonus sample below isolates federal 22% and FICA because Texas has no state wage tax. Switch the state to see a state increment. Reviewed October 2, 2026.

FAQ

Why 22%?

That is the IRS optional flat rate for supplemental wages in Publication 15 / 15-T (37% above $1 million). Your employer may use the aggregate method instead.

Is the bonus taxed twice?

No. The field is extra gross this year. Combined take-home is regular net plus bonus after those extra taxes.

Does a 401(k) apply to the bonus?

Only if you also change the 401(k) inputs. This page does not assume a bonus deferral.
